Solenoid valves with solenoid control

Solenoid valves with electric control are among the most commonly used valve types and consist of integrated solenoids, moving pistons and electric coils. At FILCOM, we offer you an extensive selection of solenoid valves in various designs, including 2/2 and 3/2-way versions, as well as models made of stainless steel or brass. Matching accessories and spare parts are also available.

Design and function of solenoid valves

The main components of these valves are the solenoid coil and the valve body. The solenoid coil contains a central iron core, which is referred to as the "piston". In the idle state, this piston can be configured either "normally open" (NO) or "normally closed" (NC) - both variants can be found in our range. Depending on this configuration, the valve is either open or closed when de-energized. As soon as current flows through the solenoid coil, a magnetic field is generated which influences the spool. With closed valves, the valve opens, while with normally open valves it blocks the media flow. In addition, solenoid valves are equipped with a shading ring that prevents mechanical vibrations of the coil.

Due to their robust design, solenoid valves are used in many applications, as they can be used in systems with both low and high pressure and different media flows.

Difference between 2-way and 3-way valves

The FILCOM range includes solenoid valves in 2-way and 3-way versions, whereby the basic function - opening, closing, distributing and mixing media - is retained in both cases.

2-way valves have two connections: an inlet and an outlet. The direction of flow is usually indicated by an arrow and these valves can be used to open or close the flow.

3-way valves offer more flexibility as they have three connection openings. These valves usually have two possible positions and can be switched between two circuits as required. In addition to opening and closing, this also allows media to be mixed or distributed.

Buying guide for solenoid valves

First determine whether your system requires a 2-way or 3-way valve. Then pay attention to the body material: brass valves are ideal for neutral media, while stainless steel valves offer high resistance to pressure, temperatures and chemical influences.

The choice between a normally open or normally closed solenoid valve should be based on the typical operating time and the standard position. A normally closed valve is recommended for most applications.

Please also note the maximum pressure and temperature range as well as the specific product details that can be found on each product page of the solenoid valve.
