Challenge

Stable and clean compressed air supply!

alphacam GmbH must ensure a constant, clean, and dry compressed air supply for its 3D printers. Contaminants such as oil or moisture must not impair the printing process, and the compressed air must be evenly distributed throughout the network. For this purpose, a KAESER ASK 34-11 screw compressor is used, which impresses with its efficiency, reliability, and low noise level.

However, the high heat generation on site places a strain on the compressed air drying process. Current refrigeration dryers reach their performance limits under these conditions. Therefore, the use of adsorption dryers is necessary to provide high-quality, dry, and clean compressed air even under extreme conditions. This is crucial for the reliability and longevity of the printers, as well as for trouble-free production processes.

Solution statement

  • In order to ensure the reliability of its compressed air supply, alphacam GmbH relies on a modernized compressed air station.
  • A KAESER ASK 34-11 rotary screw compressor provides the basic supply, while a modulating Boge compressor compensates for peak loads.
  • An additional benefit is the integrated heat recovery system, which efficiently utilizes the compressor exhaust air, eliminating the need for additional heating.
  • Almost 100% of the energy used is converted into heat and used for space heating or other applications.
  • In order to ensure high air quality, a network of microfilters, a KAESER oil-water separator, a cyclone separator, and a high-performance drying unit protect the compressed air from contaminants and moisture.
